Sorette Privacy Policy
Welcome to Sorette ("Sorette," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit our website at www.shopsorette.com (the "Site"), subscribe to our newsletter, or otherwise interact with our content and services (collectively, our "Services").
By using our Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use our Services.
1. Who We Are
Sorette is an editorial lifestyle platform featuring curated content, product recommendations, and a shoppable experience powered by affiliate partnerships. Our Site is built on Shopify. We do not operate a direct checkout or e-commerce store — all purchases are completed on the retailer's or brand partner's own website. When you click an affiliate link on our Site and make a purchase, Sorette may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal information in several ways — directly from you, automatically when you use our Services, and in some cases from third parties.
Information You Provide to Us
We collect personal information you voluntarily provide, including when you:
- Subscribe to our newsletter or other communications, in which case we collect your email address and any preferences you share;
- Submit a form on our Site (e.g., a contact or inquiry form); or
- Contact us directly by email or through our Site.
Information Collected Automatically
When you interact with our Services, we and our third-party partners may automatically collect certain information, including:
- Cookies and tracking technologies, which we use to understand how users navigate our Services, remember preferences, and support analytics and advertising features (see Section 5 for more detail);
- Usage data, such as your IP address, browser type, device details, operating system, pages visited, time spent on the Site, and referring URLs;
- Meta Pixel and social platform tools: We may use the Meta Pixel and similar tools provided by Meta (Facebook/Instagram) to understand how users engage with our Site and to help us reach individuals on Meta's platforms who may have interests similar to our audience. If you have a Meta account, Meta may connect your activity on our Site — such as pages viewed or links clicked — with your Meta account. Sorette does not receive your personal identity through this process. You can learn more about Meta's data practices at facebook.com/privacy/policy; and
- Affiliate tracking data: When you click an affiliate link on our Site, data such as a click ID or referral ID may be transmitted to the affiliate retailer or network to track the referral and attribute any resulting commission. We do not control how those third parties handle that data.
Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about users from third parties who support our Services, including analytics providers, email platforms, and social media platforms if you engage with our brand content on those platforms. We may combine this information with data we collect directly to improve our Services and better understand our audience.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:
- To deliver, maintain, and improve our Services and editorial content;
- To send you our newsletter and editorial updates (with your consent), and to respond to your inquiries;
- To personalize your experience on the Site;
- To analyze usage patterns, traffic, and engagement with our content and affiliate links;
- To understand audience interests and, where applicable, reach users with similar characteristics on platforms such as Meta, using tools like the Meta Pixel. Any insights used for this purpose do not give us access to your personal identity;
- To track affiliate link activity so that referrals and commissions are accurately attributed to our brand partners;
- To protect our rights, property, or safety, and those of our users; and
- To comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations.
We do not process personal information for targeted advertising purposes beyond what is described in this policy.
4. Email Newsletter & Communications
If you subscribe to the Sorette newsletter, we will use your email address to send you editorial content, curated product recommendations, and Site updates. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link in any email we send, or by contacting us at hello@shopsorette.com.
We use Klaviyo to manage and deliver our email communications. Klaviyo acts as a data processor on our behalf and is contractually required to protect your information and use it solely to provide email services to Sorette. You can review Klaviyo's privacy practices at klaviyo.com/legal/privacy.
We do not sell your email address or personal information to third parties.
5. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Sorette uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate and improve our Services. Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help us recognize returning visitors, understand how our content is used, and support advertising and affiliate tracking functions.
We use the following types of cookies:
- Essential Cookies: Required for the Site to function properly (e.g., Shopify platform functionality).
- Analytics Cookies: Help us understand visitor behavior and improve the Site (e.g., Google Analytics).
- Affiliate & Referral Cookies: Track clicks on affiliate links so our brand partners can accurately attribute referrals and process commissions.
- Advertising Cookies: Support tools such as the Meta Pixel to help us understand user behavior and, where applicable, reach relevant audiences on third-party platforms.
- Preference Cookies: Remember your settings and browsing preferences.
You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our Site. To opt out of Google Analytics, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. To manage Meta's use of your data for advertising, visit facebook.com/ads/preferences.
6. Affiliate Links & Third-Party Retailers
Our Site features affiliate links to third-party brands and retailers. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, Sorette may earn a commission. All purchases are completed on the retailer's own website — Sorette does not process payments or have access to your payment or transaction information.
When you click an affiliate link, your browser may transmit data (such as a click ID or referral ID) to the affiliate retailer or network. The destination retailer's own privacy policy governs how they collect and use your information. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites and encourage you to review their policies before providing personal information.
In accordance with FTC guidelines, content on our Site that includes affiliate links will be disclosed clearly (e.g., "This post contains affiliate links. Sorette may earn a commission if you make a purchase through these links.").
7. Disclosure of Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We share information with trusted vendors who help us operate the Site and deliver our Services, including Shopify (website platform), Klaviyo (email), and analytics providers. These vendors are contractually required to protect your information and use it solely to provide services to Sorette.
- Affiliate & Brand Partners: When you click an affiliate link, the destination retailer or affiliate network may receive data about your visit and any resulting transaction. This is governed by their own privacy policies.
- Social Media & Advertising Platforms: Tools such as the Meta Pixel may share your Site activity with Meta's platforms. Sorette does not receive your personal identity through this process.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any material change in ownership or use of your personal information.
- Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to a valid legal request, such as a subpoena, court order, or government inquiry, or where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Sorette or others.
8. Third-Party Links & Embedded Content
Our Site may contain links to or embedded content from third-party websites and services not owned or controlled by Sorette, including brand partner sites, social media platforms, and affiliate retailers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or policies of these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party site or service you interact with.
9. Children's Privacy
Our Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@shopsorette.com and we will promptly delete that information.
10. Data Security
We follow industry-standard practices designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Our Site is hosted on Shopify, which maintains robust security infrastructure. However, no security measures are completely effective, and we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by a breach of our safeguards. You provide personal information at your own risk.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, maintain our Services, and comply with applicable legal obligations. In determining how long to retain information, we consider the purpose for which it was collected, applicable recordkeeping laws, relevant statutes of limitations, and any legal preservation obligations. Some information is deleted automatically after a set period unless we are required by law to retain it longer, such as in connection with pending litigation.
If you unsubscribe from our newsletter or submit a deletion request, we will process your request within the timeframe required by applicable law.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws regarding your personal information. These may include:
- The right to access the personal information we hold about you;
- The right to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- The right to request deletion of your personal information;
- The right to opt out of marketing communications at any time; and
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (where applicable under laws such as the CCPA).
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@shopsorette.com. We will make all required updates and changes within the timeframe specified by applicable law. To help protect the security of your information, we may request additional details to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Please note that there may be circumstances in which we are unable to comply with a deletion or access request — for example, where we are required to retain information to fulfill a legal obligation, or where we cannot sufficiently verify your identity.
Do Not Track: Some web browsers transmit a Do Not Track ("DNT") signal to websites. There is currently no industry-wide standard for how to interpret or respond to DNT signals. For this reason, our Site does not currently respond to DNT signals.
13. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, the right to request deletion of your information, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA. To submit a request or learn more about your California privacy rights, please contact us at hello@shopsorette.com.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our Services, business practices, or applicable law. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of our Services after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
