Welcome to Honest Stories

No two experiences are ever the same — especially in motherhood, where everyone arrives in their own way. Honest Stories is our series dedicated to sharing first-person experiences from our community, because we believe every mother deserves to feel seen, heard, and less alone in her journey.

Every lived experience is valid, and we think it's beautiful and courageous to put your story out there for other moms. Our hope is that these stories spark conversation, connection, and a celebration of the sisterhood of motherhood. In this first installment, we're sharing first pregnancy stories from real moms in our community.

What To Know

These stories are shared by real members of the Sorette community. They reflect personal experiences, not medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider for guidance specific to your pregnancy.

About Honest Stories

Honest Stories was created because the realities of pregnancy, postpartum, and early motherhood are rarely as tidy as they appear. The highlight reels don't tell the full story — the quiet struggles, the unexpected moments, the things nobody warned you about.

This series exists to change that. By sharing honest, unfiltered experiences from mothers at every stage, we hope to build a community where no one feels like they're navigating it alone. Because the more openly we talk about what motherhood actually feels like, the stronger we all become.

From Maddie, Mom of Two

Maddie's first pregnancy taught her things no online course could have prepared her for — from relentless nausea that lasted months, to the reality of postpartum sleep deprivation, to the quiet guilt she carried around her feeding journey. She didn't know how common tongue and lip ties were, or how many feeding options existed. What she knows now: every mom and every baby is different, postpartum food prep matters more than you think, and birth — while unpredictable — can also be one of the most empowering experiences of your life.

In Maddie's Own Words

On the biggest disconnect between expectation and reality:
"I expected some morning sickness here and there, but I had no idea how constant and debilitating it could be for months. I was also completely unprepared for the level of sleep deprivation postpartum. I don't think anyone can truly prepare you for how intense that adjustment is, especially with your first baby."

On what she struggled with quietly:
"Being really hard on myself about my feeding journey. I had such a clear picture in my head of how things were supposed to go, and when they didn't, I carried a lot of quiet guilt and disappointment — even though I was doing everything I could for my baby."

On what she wishes someone had told her:
"Every mom and every baby is different — be confident in your decisions. You know what's best for you and your baby. And while birth can be unpredictable, it can also be incredibly empowering and positive."

If she could speak to her pregnant self:
"You've got this — and so much happiness and joy are right around the corner. The love you're about to feel is bigger than anything you can imagine, and you are already exactly the mom your baby needs."

What First-Time Moms Wish They'd Known

Across first pregnancy experiences, a few themes come up again and again. Feeding is harder than expected — and more flexible than most moms realize. Postpartum recovery takes more out of you than any book prepares you for. The quiet struggles — guilt, disappointment, self-criticism — are far more common than anyone talks about. And birth, for all its unpredictability, can be one of the most empowering experiences of a woman's life.

If there's one thing first-time moms consistently wish someone had told them, it's this: trust yourself. You already know more than you think.
