First Pregnancy Stories From Real Moms in Our Community

Back to blog

Welcome to Honest Stories

No two experiences are ever the same — especially in motherhood, where everyone arrives in their own way. Honest Stories is our series dedicated to sharing first-person experiences from our community, because we believe every mother deserves to feel seen, heard, and less alone in her journey.

Every lived experience is valid, and we think it's beautiful and courageous to put your story out there for other moms. Our hope is that these stories spark conversation, connection, and a celebration of the sisterhood of motherhood. In this first installment, we're sharing first pregnancy stories from real moms in our community.

What To Know

These stories are shared by real members of the Sorette community. They reflect personal experiences, not medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider for guidance specific to your pregnancy.

About Honest Stories

Honest Stories was created because the realities of pregnancy, postpartum, and early motherhood are rarely as tidy as they appear. The highlight reels don't tell the full story — the quiet struggles, the unexpected moments, the things nobody warned you about.

This series exists to change that. By sharing honest, unfiltered experiences from mothers at every stage, we hope to build a community where no one feels like they're navigating it alone. Because the more openly we talk about what motherhood actually feels like, the stronger we all become.

FROM DEMI, MOM OF ONE

Demi's first pregnancy came after a miscarriage just months earlier, so the first signs of morning sickness felt like relief — until relentless hyperemesis landed her in the ER for IV fluids and nausea medication, and out of work as an RN for most of her pregnancy. What she wants other moms to know: what looks like "just pregnancy" can be a lot more, and it deserves to be taken seriously. On the other side of it, she found something she didn't expect — a fierce new respect for her body and a release from years of chasing "skinny."

In Demi's Own Words

On what she struggled with quietly:

"I struggled with horrible hyperemesis during my first pregnancy. Because I had miscarried a few months prior, I remember being excited the first time I had to run to the bathroom and throw up — 'Yay, this is the real deal and happening!' That excitement didn't last long as it got way worse. Aside from a few close friends, when I tried to confide in people I didn't feel fully understood. People would say things like 'that's just pregnancy!' I felt like my pain was dismissed, and it was very isolating. I was getting sick 10 to 12 times a day and ended up in the ER for IV nausea meds and fluids. Working as an RN, I had to take leave from work, and many days I couldn't get out of bed. I spent most of my pregnancy horizontal, in survival mode. I wish more people talked about how debilitating hyperemesis can be."

On how it changed the way she sees herself:

"My first pregnancy changed the way I see myself today in a big way. I can do hard things — I am so proud of my body and everything it went through to bring my baby boy into this world. I've always struggled with body image and wanting to lose weight and get 'skinny.' I don't feel that same obsession now. I want to be patient with my body as I heal and get strong again. I want to give my body grace and love, just as it gave me my greatest gift. I feel so grateful — women are superheroes."
