A Third Pregnancy, a Pared-Back Routine, and a Few Products That Are Actually Working

When you build a platform designed to help parents make more informed product choices, your own pregnancy becomes something of a live test. Lanning Ardente, Sorette's founder and CEO, is currently expecting her third child and just entering her third trimester and like most moms who've been here before, she came into this pregnancy with opinions.

What she didn't expect was how much her skin would challenge everything she thought she knew.

"My first two trimesters were rough skin-wise. I had really bad hormonal acne — nothing was helping. At some point I just stopped trying to fight it and started focusing on keeping things as simple and consistent as possible. That actually made more of a difference than anything else I tried."

What followed was a stripped-back, intentional routine that has evolved trimester by trimester, guided by what her skin can tolerate, what feels good on a changing body, and what she trusts enough to reach for every single day. Everything featured here is Sorette Approved.

WHAT TO KNOW

Every product featured in this post carries the Sorette Seal of Approval. Lanning's picks reflect her personal experience during her third pregnancy and are not medical recommendations. Always consult your OB-GYN or dermatologist before making changes to your routine.

First & Second Trimester: Keeping It Simple

he first half of Lanning's third pregnancy was defined by one word: simplicity. Hormonal acne hit hard in the first and second trimester, and after trying to address it with various treatments, she made a deliberate decision to pare back.

"I became really religious about washing my face twice a day. That was the foundation of everything. When your skin is going haywire, consistency matters more than products."

Her cleansers of choice are the Doctor Rogers Face Wash and the Tata Harper Superkind Soothing Milky Gel Cleanser — both fragrance-free, both gentle enough for daily double use without stripping the skin barrier. On nights or mornings when she was wearing makeup, she'd precede her cleanse with the True Botanicals Ginger Cleansing Balm to break everything down first.

From there, she kept moisture simple: the Cool As A Cucumber Hydra Elixir followed by either the KORA Organics Noni Glow Face Oil or the AESTURA ATOBARRIER365 Cream, depending on what her skin needed that day.

"I couldn't layer anything extra. No night serums, no morning actives — my skin just wasn't ready for it. So I focused on barrier support and hydration and left it at that."

Third Trimester: Slowly Layering Back In

Now that Lanning is entering her third trimester and her skin has begun to settle, she's finding room to reintroduce a couple of targeted products she had to put aside earlier in the pregnancy.

"By the third trimester I finally feel like I can layer something back in without my skin revolting. I've started using the True Botanicals Phyto-Retinol Sleep Serum at night and The Outset Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum in the morning — both feel like a gentle step back toward doing something proactive for my skin without overdoing it."

The rest of her routine has stayed largely intact. Consistency has become its own kind of anchor.

And with a spring break trip to Florida coming up, she has one more addition: Le Prunier Plumscreen, one of her favorite mineral sunscreens. "I'm not going anywhere without that one."

Body Care: Hydration, All Day, Every Day

f Lanning's face routine became more minimal during pregnancy, her body care routine has gone in the opposite direction.

"I have been very liberal about applying moisturizing lotions and oils to my stretching skin. I'm not taking any chances."

Her rotation has included the True Botanicals Restorative Body Butter, LINNE Replenish Everywhere Oil, and HATCH Belly Oil. —each reaching for a slightly different texture and moment in her routine, but all united by the same principle: keep the skin barrier supported, keep it hydrated, and keep it happy. Occasionally I'd also take a warm—not hot!— bath and would drizzle some Oak Essentials Bath Oil as a special treat.

"There's something about the third pregnancy where you just know what works and you go all in on it. I'm not experimenting. I'm just staying consistent with the things I trust."
